FIRST RELEASE 2021! I wrote the lyrics for this song 2 years ago after experiencing some ridiculously xenophobic and racist hate speech while in the Glasgow Train Station. I didn't flinch when she threatened to beat my ch**ky face in, I didn't blink, I just looked at her while she told me to go back to my own country. I didn't engage because she was just so pathetic and scared of a completely silent Asian death stare that she walked away. I didn't have to say anything or ball up my firsts. I instantly began writing this when I got on the train to leave. Anti Asian Racism is something I have experienced in every place I have ever been, Covid has made things more violent. To Asians, please talk to your elders about safety. I've had some intense talks with my mother lately. She has experienced racism her whole life but things are getting so intense and violent, I'm scared for her even at the grocery store. Welcome to the Unpleasantries of being is about how on the train, no one knew what I had just experienced. I didn't know if they had also had something unpleasant occur that day. We all sat, all individual, all together, all alone, all experiencing our own Unpleasantries of Being.
